Sinusitis refers to the inflammation, irritation, and swelling of the sinuses caused by an infection. Normally, our sinuses are filled with air, which helps keep our facial bones light and less dense. Sinusitis commonly occurs when there is inflammation due to viral or bacterial infections, often associated with colds. Allergy sufferers are also more susceptible to developing sinusitis.
