Each Tavegyl tablet contains 1 mg of clemastine, along with lactose monohydrate, povidone, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and talc as excipients. Tavegyl Formulation and Composition:

Tavegyl is formulated as tablets and each tablet contains 1 mg of clemastine. Additional ingredients include lactose monohydrate, povidone, corn starch, magnesium stearate, and talc.

Pharmacological Action:

Tavegyl acts as an allergy drug and functions as a blocker of histamine H1-receptors. It belongs to a group of antihistamines known as benzhydryl esters. By selectively inhibiting histamine H1-receptors, Tavegyl reduces capillary permeability, providing anti-allergic and anti-itching effects. This medication offers a quick onset of action and long-lasting relief.

The antihistaminic activity of Tavegyl reaches its peak approximately 5-7 hours after administration and can persist for up to 10-12 hours, and in some cases, even up to 24 hours.

Indications:

Tavegyl is recommended for the following conditions:
  • Hay fever and other allergic rhinitis
  • Urticaria of various origins
  • Pruritic dermatoses and itching
  • Acute and chronic eczema, contact dermatitis, and drug eruptions (as an additional treatment)
  • Insect bites

Contraindications:

Tavegyl should not be used in the following cases:
  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or other antihistamine drugs with similar chemical structures
  • Lower respiratory tract diseases, including bronchial asthma
  • Children under 1 year of age
  • During lactation (breastfeeding)
  • Concurrent use of MAO inhibitors
Caution is advised in patients with the following conditions:
  • Stenosis of the pylorus of the stomach
  • Stenosing peptic ulcer
  • Obstructive phenomena in the pyloroduodenal region
  • Bladder neck obstruction and hypertrophy of the prostate with urinary retention
  • Angle-closure glaucoma
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension

Tavegyl Dosage and Administration:

Tavegyl is taken orally before meals with water.

For adults and children over 12 years: Take 1 tablet (1 mg) in the morning and evening. In difficult-to-treat cases, the daily dose may be increased to 6 tablets (6 mg).

For children aged 6-12 years: Take 1/2 to 1 tablet before breakfast and at bedtime.

Tavegyl Side Effects:

Tavegyl may cause certain side effects, including:
  • Central Nervous System (CNS) effects such as drowsiness, fatigue, headache, dizziness, tremor, sedation, weakness, confusion, and incoordination. In some cases, particularly in children, stimulating effects on the CNS, such as anxiety, increased irritability, agitation, nervousness, insomnia, hysteria, euphoria, and convulsions, may occur.
  • Digestive system issues such as neuralgia, nausea, epigastric pain, constipation, and vomiting. In some cases, dry mouth and reduced appetite may be observed, and rarely, diarrhea.
  • Urinary system problems are rare and may include urinary frequency and difficult urination.
  • Respiratory system effects are infrequent and may include thickened bronchial secretions, sputum obstruction, chest pressure, difficulty breathing, and nasal congestion.
  • Cardiovascular system issues are rare and may include a decrease in blood pressure (more common in elderly patients), increased heart rate, and arrhythmia.
  • Dermatological reactions such as photosensitization are very rare.
  • Sensory organs may be affected with changes in visual perception, diplopia, acute labyrinthitis, and tinnitus.
  • Blood-related effects such as hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and agranulocytosis.

Special Instructions:

When taking Tavegyl, it is recommended to avoid activities that require increased attention, such as driving vehicles or operating machinery.

Drug Interactions:

It may potentiate the effects of CNS depressants (e.g., hypnotics, sedatives, tranquilizers), m-cholinoblockers, and ethanol.

Storage Conditions:

Store Tavegyl in a safe place, out of reach of children, at a temperature between 15°C and 30°C.

Shelf Life:

The shelf life of Tavegyl is 5 years.
