What is Thrombo ASS and its Uses:
Thrombo ASS is a medication available in the form of gastro-resistant film-coated tablets. Each tablet contains 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid, which possesses antithrombotic properties, reducing the formation of blood clots. The gastro-resistant film coating helps minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with acetylsalicylic acid. Thrombo ASS is used for the following purposes:
- Reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris.
- Preventing recurrence after a myocardial infarction.
- Preventing thrombosis after vascular surgery, such as coronary artery bypass graft.
- Secondary prevention of previous ischemic attacks and strokes.
- Treating acute myocardial infarction.
- Providing periodic treatment for migraines.
Before Taking Thrombo ASS: Do not take Thrombo ASS if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to aspirin, salicylates, or any components of the product.
- Gastrointestinal ulcers.
- Predisposition to bleeding, low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), or coagulation disorders (hemophilia).
- Severe kidney impairment and increased oxalate levels in the urine (oxaluria).
Special Precautions with Thrombo ASS: Before undergoing elective surgery, the antiplatelet effect of Thrombo ASS should be considered. Consult your doctor regarding the use of other salicylates or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory/antirheumatic agents.
Regular monitoring of kidney function is necessary when using high doses of acetylsalicylic acid for extended periods, as it can cause kidney damage.
In rare cases, dangerous complications (Reye’s syndrome) have been reported in children and adolescents.
If you experience prolonged vomiting, dehydration, impaired consciousness, or seizures, notify your doctor immediately. Exercise caution if you have known hypersensitivity to other analgesics used for treating rheumatic diseases, bronchial asthma, hemolytic anemia, gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., gastritis), or liver and/or kidney dysfunctions. Inform your doctor about these conditions.
Taking Other Medicines:
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines you are taking or have recently taken, including those obtained without a prescription.
Concomitant administration of Thrombo ASS with other medications may strengthen or weaken their effects.
Thrombo ASS increases the effects of medicines that slow blood clotting (e.g., coumarin derivatives, heparin, dipyridamole, and sulfinpyrazone), drugs that reduce blood sugar levels (sulphonylureas), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic agents, and methotrexate. It also increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when taken with glucocorticoids or alcohol. Furthermore, it can increase the concentration of digoxin, barbiturates, and lithium in the blood.
Thrombo ASS weakens the effects of diuretics (spironolactone and furosemide), drugs that enhance the excretion of uric acid (probenecid, sulfinpyrazone), and medications for lowering high blood pressure.
Concomitant use of ibuprofen may reduce the antiplatelet effect of Thrombo ASS 100mg film-coated tablets.
When taking antacids, H2 blockers, and anticholinergics for an extended period, it may be necessary to increase the dose of acetylsalicylic acid.
Co-administration with tetracyclines may result in the formation of non-resorbable complexes, so an interval of at least 1-3 hours should be maintained between taking different drugs.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Do not use Thrombo ASS during the last three months of pregnancy, as it can prolong bleeding time during childbirth for both the mother and child. Only use Thrombo ASS during the first six months of pregnancy and during lactation if absolutely necessary.
Effects on Driving and Machine Use:
There is no evidence of adverse effects on alertness, driving, or machine operation when taking Thrombo ASS.
How to Take Thrombo ASS:
The dose and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. It is important to take the medicine exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose or discontinue therapy without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well. Try to take the medicine at the same time each day.
Instructions:
- Take the film-coated tablets without chewing or splitting, with some liquid after meals. Splitting the tablets will compromise their gastro-resistant properties, so Thrombo ASS 100 mg film-coated tablets should not be divided.
- To reduce the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris: Recommended daily dosage is 30 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
- Prevention of recurrence after myocardial infarction: Recommended daily dosage is 30 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
- Secondary prevention after transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and strokes: Recommended daily dosage is 30 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
- Prevention of thrombosis after vascular surgery (e.g., coronary bypass surgery): Recommended daily dosage is 50 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
- Acute myocardial infarction: Recommended daily dosage is 100 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
- Periodic migraine therapy: Recommended daily dosage is 100 mg to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
If You Take More Than the Recommended Amount of Thrombo ASS:
In case of overdose, contact a local doctor or the nearest hospital. Symptoms of overdose may include gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting, stomach pain), dizziness, headache, confusion, and ringing in the ears. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.
Possible Side Effects:
Like all medicines, Thrombo ASS can cause side effects, although they do not necessarily occur in all patients.
Rarely, the following reactions may occur:
- Hypersensitivity reactions (bronchospasm, skin reactions).
- Stomach complaints (nausea, vomiting).
- Gastrointestinal bleeding, which in rare cases may lead to iron deficiency anemia.
- Prolongation of bleeding time.
- Triggering an asthma attack.
- Thrombocytopenia.
- Prolonged use of higher doses may result in liver and kidney damage.
- Higher doses can cause dizziness, tinnitus, or gastrointestinal ulcers with bleeding (vomiting resembling coffee grounds or bright red stool).
If you experience side effects, including those not listed in this leaflet, inform your doctor.
